Manchester City loanee Máximo Perrone, now at Como, says Cesc Fabregas has the ‘same DNA’ as Pep Guardiola: ‘It’s rare to find this style of play in Italy.’

Newly promoted Serie A side Como will meet Antonio Conte’s Napoli at the Stadio Maradona this evening.

Perrone, a 21-year-old Argentinean midfielder on loan from Manchester City, is expected to start for the visitors in the middle of the park.

“I like quality midfielders who set up attacks. This is the style of play I identify with. A role model? Rodri,” he told Gazzetta.

“We are growing, game by game, trying to follow Fabregas’ instructions as best we can. We want to dominate proceedings; we know Napoli are a strong side, but we want to keep our identity.”

Perrone joined Manchester City from Velez in January 2023 and spent the last season on loan at Las Palmas. The 21-year-old has two appearances with the Manchester City senior team.

Perrone: ‘Fabregas has the same DNA as Guardiola’

“It was a difficult but formative experience. Now I’m in Serie A, and I’m enjoying it and giving my best,” he said.

“I like Serie A and I can’t wait to play the following games to enjoy this season at Como. I knew how tricky it was. It [Serie A] is very aggressive defensively.”

Como won the latest two Serie A games against Atalanta and Hellas Verona and are clearly improving under coach Fabregas.

“It’s rare to find this style of play in Italy. Not many teams do the same,” said the midfielder.

“Fabregas has the same DNA as Guardiola. He wants to play the ball, press high, and bring many players to the middle of the pitch. I think these aspects are our strengths.”

Perrone has two goals in nine appearances with the Argentina U20 squad, but Walter Samuel scouted him for the senior team this past weekend in a Serie A match against Verona.

“I knew it after the game. They go all around the world, so you must show the best version of yourself in every game to fulfil the dream of playing for the Albiceleste,” said the midfielder.

Lastly, Perrone was asked who the best player he’s seen in Serie A so far this season is, and he surprisingly picked a teammate and compatriot: “Nico Paz. Is that okay as a reply?”

Perrone has made five Serie A appearances this season, four as a starter, and has accumulated 392 minutes on the pitch.
