Ivan Perisic and coach Simone Inzaghi both received praise from the Italian media following Inter’s 3-1 win over Cagliari yesterday.

The Nerazzurri knew that they couldn’t afford to drop points against the Sardinian side after Milan picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over Atalanta earlier in the afternoon. Inter hit their mark and goals from Matteo Darmian and Lautaro Martinez secured the victory for Inzaghi’s side, putting them only two points behind their intercity rivals with one game left.

La Gazzetta dello Sport didn’t struggle for words when praising Perisic, noting that “the more people talk about his contract, the better he plays.” The other major newspapers agreed, highlighting how he continues to rise to prominence as the matches become more decisive.

Inzaghi was praised for his good preparations for the Cagliari clash, setting his team up for a good squad performance, not falling victim to a team desperate to avoid relegation. Tuttosport wrote about the qualities of their mindset, saying “the long Coppa Italia final and Milan’s victory would have felled even a bull. But Inter are playing well.” La Gazzetta dello Sport gave “merit” to Inzaghi for the “recognisable game.”
