Genoa boss Fabio Liverani is ready to start the season with youngster Mattia Perin as his first choice goalkeeper.

Perin, 20, has returned to his parent club this summer after loan spells at Padova and then Pescara in recent years.

After deciding to sell Sebastien Frey to Turkish outfit Bursaspor, the Under-21 international will be handed the gloves at Marassi.

“Liverani has decided to focus on Perin,” Rossoblu sporting director Daniele Delli Carri said when asked about the possible arrival of a new shot-stopper.

Perin is regarded as a star of the future, but he did have his struggles at Pescara last season as they were relegated to Serie B.

The 'keeper appeared in 29 League games for the seaside outfit, conceding 66 goals in the process.
