The goalkeeper returned from Juventus this winter and the results have improved at the Marassi after the winter break.

The Rossoblu are currently three points behind safety in Serie A and Perin insisted that the “confidence is back” in Genoa.

“We are working to improve our weaknesses,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Often many of the players remain on the pitch after the training session has ended. The new sports centre has been important.

“We took points in Florence and in Bergamo, two difficult matches, then we beat Cagliari. We need results like this, we lacked a bit of confidence but have brought it back with these results.

“And we know we can do even better; the coach is very thorough and gives us a lot of energy. We want to fight until the end to achieve our goal.”

The former Juventus goalkeeper has warned his team to “focus on ourselves” and not think that it’s two-horse race between Lecce and Genoa for the last safe spot in the League.

“There are other teams that can return to fight for salvation,” he added. “There’s not just us, but SPAL, Brescia and Lecce. We only focus on ourselves, without looking at the others. Otherwise we will spend unnecessary energy.

“If we do our job, we will climb out of the position we’re in right now.”
