Italian media hugely criticised Wojciech Szczesny after Juventus‘ 2-2 draw against Udinese. ‘Perin must be ready,” wrote La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The former Arsenal man is at fault for both goals conceded by the Old Lady at the Dacia Arena in their Serie A opener on Sunday.
The 31-year-old only parried a Tolgay Arslan effort, then brought the same player down on the rebound for a penalty which former Bianconeri midfielder Roberto Pereyra converted.
But Szczesny made the biggest mistake later on when he failed to dribble Stefano Okaka, allowing Gerard Deulofeu to put the ball inside an empty net.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri refused to blame the goalkeeper after the game but said he ‘should not be ashamed’ of throwing the ball in the stands when needed.
The Poland goalkeeper was understandably named the worst player on the pitch by every sports paper in Italy.
He was rated 4/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Il Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport which blamed the former Gunner for both goals conceded by the Bianconeri.
La Gazzetta dello Sport went even beyond writing that Juventus’ second choice goalkeeper Mattia Perin ‘must be ready’ as Szczesny’s mistakes were ‘inexplicable.’

Why didn’t we go all out for Donnarumma?!!! There was so much talk last season about Juve signing him and yet we stuck with Szczesny. I don’t get it. He hasn’t been his best for the last few seasons.
He’s is becoming more prone to mistakes over the last few years, but these can be drilled out of him, he was at his best under Allegri before and he’s much better than Perin.
Please god not let him to save juve goal anymore, I pray, cant see this person destroying all players carreers anymore, its terrible goalkeeper destroyed us with porto, not saved us against lyon and ajax, please help us please!!
This guy is just horrible mistake upon mistake he was the worst keeper in the Euros and now h has brought the same mistake again
He also had a very poor Euro tournament for Poland so it looks like he has continued his bad form. Definitely needs to be benched just to show him that he must compete for his spot and that those mistakes can’t be continually tolerated.

Szczesny you need to stop smoking tobacco – get a e-cig or chew nicorette or get a nicorette patch cuz everytime you are on the field it’s like you are dying for a cigarette and can’t concentrate. But if we can’t get rid of Ramsey try getting rid of this guy for 6.5 mill a season and his contract ending in 2024 – who offered him this extension ??
