Mattia Perin said Genoa ‘don’t want alibis’ after the Grifone’s 0-0 draw at Verona and attacked: ‘I was annoyed by clichés about footballers.’

"We can only give a name to this result: team,” Perin told Sky Spor after a goalless stalemate against Verona.

“We have hardly trained in this period, but we don't want alibis, we tried to gain points, we don’t want to repeat the last season.”

“Verona were the revelation of the last season, our goal remain to survive in Serie A. We must have that seed, the seed of survival. We want to improve last year’s results.”

Perin was the first of 22 Genoa people – among the players and the staff – to test positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago.

“The virus is a devious disease. Us footballers are normal people. We go to dinner, always protected with the mask.

“I thank Genoa and the club's doctor who have not missed anything, despite having contracted the virus as well.

“I was annoyed by the clichés about superficial footballers.

"Sometimes you have to raise your head and say what you think. We’re tired of being described as superficial.”
