Atalanta president Antonio Percassi says La Dea will go to Old Trafford ‘to learn football’ and insists Gian Piero Gasperini won’t leave the club in the near future.

Percassi received the Person of the Year award by GLGS-USSI Lombardia on Tuesday and spoke about Gasperini’s future and Atalanta’s imminent Champions League clash against Manchester United.

“It’s not easy,” Percassi said when asked how is it like to work with Gasperini.

“But by now we have adopted him and above all understood him. After the games we allow him to let off steam and then we know that the next day he is much more peaceful.

“He has three years left in his contract, so there are no problems on our end.”

La Dea travel to Old Trafford on October 20 and host the Red Devils at the Gewiss Stadium on November 2.

“I’m staying home,” he said and laughed. “It’s a crazy game, just thinking about going there to play is a dream for an Atalanta fan like I have always been,” Percassi said regarding the away game at Old Trafford.

“The game is complicated but we hope to be able to get a positive result and to learn from these matches.

“We are the group leaders, but it will be more difficult to be ahead in the second part of the group stage.

“All the games are all important, all decisive, the important thing is not to lose them,” he continued.

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Italy for the first time after leaving Juventus in August.

The Portuguese ace has scored three goals in six appearances against La Dea in his career, all of them in a Bianconeri shirt.

When asked what he thinks about Ronaldo, Percarssi replied: “He’s a great player, but you should ask him what he thinks when he plays with Atalanta.

“Manchester United are a top club. It is difficult to confirm these results for a small club like us, but we continue with great humility to propose our football, with Gasperini, who has done really well.”
