Simone Pepe feels Juventus needed Thursday night's 2-0 win over Catania in the Coppa Italia to settle their nerves.

The Old Lady had lost her last two games against Parma and Napoli in Serie A, prompting talk of a crisis in Turin.

Interviewed on Sky Italia, Pepe said: "We needed the victory against Catania. Getting it was fundamental for morale after two consecutive defeats.

"We had put together 18 positive results in a row and everyone praised us, then, after these two games everything was put back in discussion again.

"We had put together 18 positive results in a row and everyone praised us, then, after these two games everything was put back in discussion again.

"But we have the job of maintaining our balance and calm."

Finally Pepe reflected on Gigi Buffon's return to action after seven months on the sidelines.

"For us his return is very important and saying so is taken for granted seeing that we are talking about the best goalkeeper in the world.

"To have players like Buffon and Del Piero in the squad is an added motivation for everyone, because you know that from one moment to the next they can leave their mark on a game."
