“It’s a very important match, our first on home turf and we haven’t beaten Atalanta for a while at the Olimpico,” the midfielder told Roma TV.

“That means we can achieve something extra tonight. We know Atalanta might be sharper physically, having started their season so early for the Europa League, but we’re in good shape too. We want a win to continue our march.

“A victory can also reply to Juventus and Napoli, keeping us in the top spot, but first and foremost we must focus on ourselves and not the others.”

Kevin Strootman is already in Marseille to complete his transfer to Olympique for €25m plus €3m in bonuses.

“Of course everyone is sad about Kevin, as he was one of us and will always remain our friend," Pellegrini told Sky Sport Italia.
