Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says new Inter man Stevan Jovetic ‘had to go’ because of ‘too many injuries’.

The Montenegrin is undergoing his medical with the Nerazzurri this afternoon, ahead of signing on loan with a mandatory buy-out clause, in a deal worth around €15m.

“Unfortunately, Stevan had to go," Pellegrini told City's official website.

“He's a very good player – one of the best players I have seen – but for him he had too many injuries and that's why he couldn't play too many games in a row.

“I wish him the best for the future and I'm sure he'll be a very important player for Inter.”

The former Fiorentina forward made just 39 appearances in all competitions during his two seasons in England, but did score 11 goals in that period.
