The former Sassuolo midfielder has seemingly found his niche in a more creative midfield role behind the strikers, changing the game after he replaced injured Javier Pastore in the derby with Lazio and running tonight’s 5-0 Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen.

“We are very happy, it was important to win on Saturday and tonight, as after a few slip-ups we’ve won three in a row,” Pellegrini told Roma TV.

“We have to continue like this and get even stronger. I don’t know that we’re missing anything to be a complete side. We had some difficulties with many changes at the start of the season, but we’ve found ourselves again and must keep going.

“I am happy with this role, as I had already played there a few times for Sassuolo, even if it wasn’t my main position. I am happy to send teammates clear with through balls and when they score, it feels like I’ve scored too.”

The season changed when Roma went into a training retreat after the defeat to Bologna.

“When you gain confidence, everything seems to go better. Our negative streak was inexplicable, but we found the certainties we had lost.

“It did us good to spend a few days together. We’re playing well, enjoying our football and this is a very united group, you can tell by the way we all celebrate together after a goal.”
