Pedro warns Lazio ‘have to change this mentality’ of starting their games slow, especially in the Champions League after a 3-1 defeat to Feyenoord.

The Biancocelesti conceded the first goal in all their European fixtures so far this season, fighting back for a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid and 2-1 victory away to Celtic.

However, this evening they gave themselves a mountain to climb, trailing 2-0 in Rotterdam at half-time with Santiago Gimenez and Ramiz Zerrouki making the most of defensive errors.

Gimenez added a third on the rebound from an Ivan Provedel save and substitute Pedro converted a late penalty for the foul on Mattia Zaccagni.

“We gifted them the first half and you cannot afford to gift even a minute in the Champions League,” Pedro told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have to change this mentality of how we start games, it becomes difficult to get the results we want if we keep doing that. I am angry at the result. We knew that Feyenoord were a strong team with players who were dangerous on the counter-attack, it is tough in the Champions League.

“It is crucial that we start with a different mentality if we want to win. I don’t think we are playing badly this season, but we have got to start better.”
