Roma new boy Pedro has vowed to make winners out of the Giallorossi. “If you only aim for fourth place, you’ll end up in seventh.”

Pedro was unveiled yesterday and the former Chelsea winger, who has 29 trophies to his name, is ready to help instil a ‘winning mentality’ at the Olimpico.

“If you only aim for fourth place, you’ll end up in seventh,” he said, before touching on Edin Dzeko’s decision to stay.

“I always want to win, I even get angry if I lose in training. I think we can finish third or fourth and move forward in the cups. We must believe, even if it won’t be easy.

“One of the reasons why I chose Roma was the presence of players like Micki [Mkhitaryan] and Edin [Dzeko].

“They’re top players, we want to get back into the Champions League and keep improving.

“We know Dzeko is our captain, we know how important he is in the dressing room. He has extraordinary ability and carries a huge weight for us.

“We’re happy that Edin is staying with us and I’m very happy. I hope he plays on Sunday and has a great game.

“In any case, we mustn’t listen to the voices that can distract us. We’re only thinking about putting in a great performance, making as few mistakes as possible.

“We know it’ll be difficult, that it’ll be a complicated challenge, but we want to create a winning mentality.

“Our minimum objective this season is to finish in the top three or four. We have a squad to be able to do it, but it shouldn’t be only my objective. It must be that of the whole team.”

The 33-year-old has spent the majority of his career out wide, but he assured he could play anywhere across the front line.

“I can play behind the striker, like Mkhitaryan, Zaniolo and Carles Perez. I can play on the right or even the left.

“I can get into the box and create space for the striker, even if I know that Italian football is very tactical.

“I’ll adapt and play wherever the coach sees fit. The important thing is to create a winning mentality.”
