Lazio veteran Pedro did not shy away from the team’s deficiencies in their Conference League Round of 16 loss to AZ Alkmaar, sharing his frustration.

The Biancocelesti took the lead after just 18 minutes thanks to the 2010 World Cup winner, but were unable to maintain their early control and allowed an equaliser just before half time. AZ then took the lead just after the hour mark, leaving Lazio with nothing in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Pedro first reacted to Lazio’s frustrating 2-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar.

“We lost two balls and they scored two goals, it’s a pity but we have to go to the Netherlands and play a good game to move on.

“Today I am angry about the result and also about my mistake. I am always happy to score but now we have to think about Bologna.”

He touched on what the Biancocelesti need to do in the second leg next week.

“Of course, we have to do better than today, we had chances, but we didn’t take them. It’s a pity because it was a good opportunity to score, now we must think about winning the return leg.”

Finally, Pedro commented on where Lazio went wrong against AZ Alkmaar.

“They put the pressure on well, they were very aggressive, but we have to play better. That’s how it is in Europe, all games are difficult.”

Lazio currently sit third in the Serie A table and are in the thick of the race for a top four finish, but in Europe Maurizio Sarri’s side have looked a shadow of themselves, being far more inconsistent and tired.

  1. Unfortunately playing in Europe is not the same as playing in Serie A. Lazio beat the top Italian team but can’t beat a third place Dutch league team, simply because the Dutch league plays more aggressive, more dynamic football.
