Fabio Pecchia believes his Verona team ‘deserved a draw’ in the 2-0 defeat to Bologna this afternoon.

The relegation-threatened Scaligeri fell five points shy of safety with just six matches left of the season after goals by Simone Verdi and Adam Nagy handed Roberto Donadoni’s team victory.

Despite putting pressure on their hosts with the score at 1-0, Verona were unable to force an equaliser and were punished by Nagy’s late second for the Rossoblu.

“We would have deserved a draw,” Pecchia insisted. “It went the way it did and we need to look forward.

“Until the end every match is very delicately poised, earning points is our aim.

Bologna started well, we deserved a draw. I don’t consider the goal they scored to make it 2-0 at the end, my boys showed a great reaction.

“When we go behind we usually concede a lot more but today we held our own well.

“We created different chances to equalise but we didn’t manage to do it.”

Verona are back in action in midweek, when they host Sassuolo in a relegation six-pointer.
