Fabio Pecchia takes responsibility for Verona’s relegation after defeat to Milan. “It hurts even more because I was unable to repay that faith.”

Their chances of staying in the top flight were already slim, as they’d have to win at San Siro just to postpone the inevitable, but were beaten 4-1.

“We had hoped to stay in the game more, but Milan put in a strong performance and their quality made the difference,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We had hoped to stay in the game more, but Milan put in a strong performance and their quality made the difference,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“There’s not much we can say about that defeat. We made mistakes this season and it is very disappointing to be relegated. It was a complicated and tough year, but I always believed in safety and it was the defeat to SPAL last week that took away all hope in the group.

“Unfortunately, we paid a heavy price for some below-par performances at key moments of the campaign. We showed a lack of experience and those were moments where we had to bring home the points. I feel that I am the first person responsible for this.

“If you don’t get results, then you can’t be rewarded, but I am glad the President evaluated my work overall and decided against sacking me. On the other hand, it hurts even more because I was unable to repay his faith in me.”
