Giampaolo Pazzini has revealed that FIGC candidate and ex-Levante midfielder Damiano Tommasi played a key role in his move to the Spanish side.

Pazzini joined Levante in a deal until the end of the season on Wednesday, and the former Verona and Italy hitman made it clear “I’ve come here as a player and not a tourist.”

“I take [this move] as a challenge. I’ve never been afraid of them,” began the 33-year-old at his official unveiling.

“I’ve started from scratch a thousand times. I’ve played for Inter, Milan and the national team, and I’m not afraid. I’ve come here as a player and not a tourist.

“La Liga? It looks like a very beautiful League, with spectacular stadia, and I really want to experience it first half in order to see what this League is really about. I followed it with great interest in Italy.

“I’m a player who’s played in lots of matches and who has a lot of experience, and that’s what I’m going to give to my teammates.

“For me, the crucial thing now is to integrate myself and get to know my teammates. The most important thing is the team, who have an objective, and then come my own.

“I’m a striker who likes to be near my opponents’ goal. I’m not interested in dribbling but scoring goals.

“How long will I stay here? I’m focusing on the day to day, working to make myself available.

“I’ve talked to the President, and we’ll have another conversation soon, when we’ll talk about the future, but for now the most important thing is staying up.

“Tommasi? I’ve talked to several players [about Levante] and they all spoke infinitely well about this city and club, but when I spoke with Tommasi, it was as if he was talking about his own club.”

Pazzini could debut for the Liga strugglers against champions Real Madrid this weekend.
