The forward secured a loan move to the Spanish club from Verona on transfer deadline day, although he admits he was initially unsure about the move.

“The offer came when there were 36 hours left of the transfer window,” Pazzini explained to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I wasn’t convinced. It wasn’t because of the city or team, but because of personal and logistical reasons like moving the family to another country in a day and a half.

“The President came to my house and through his desire to get me, I was convinced.”

Having made the decision to head across the Mediterranean, the former Milan, Inter, Sampdoria and Fiorentina man then made an instant impact at his new club, coming off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with European champions Real Madrid.

“It was all very fast and exciting. I moved, I was immediately included against Madrid despite only just arriving. I came on, I scored in front of a full stadium.

“It’s impossible to ask for more.”
