Cagliari have announced that Leonardo Pavoletti has undergone a new surgery on the ruptured ACL and is set for another six-month spell out.

The Rossoneri forward was on course to return to the side towards the last months of the season but suffered another setback after being out since the end of August last year.

He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee that had kept him out for most of the season and the club had to calm the speculation in the media about how he suffered the setback.

Cagliari have announced on their official website that Pavoletti will need another six months of “rehabilitation” after a second intervention at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck.

The club writes: “Leonardo Pavoletti underwent surgery for the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee. The operation was performed last night in the Hochum clinic in Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink.

“The player will now be observed over a few days at the hospital and the rehabilitation process has been established with a prognosis of about six months, starting from next week.”

Pavoletti has been limited to the one appearance this term and has been a big loss for the Rossoblu, who relied on his 16 goals in the top tier last season.
