Milan are rapidly closing in on a deal with RB Salzburg for Strahinja Pavlovic and may complete the transfer next week, reports suggest.

The Rossoneri are keen to bolster their defence under new coach Paulo Fonseca and have been targeting the 23-year-old Serbian centre back for a number of weeks now, believing he’d be the right fit for the new project in the Lombardy capital.

Milan could also look to sell Malick Thiaw in the coming days, with Newcastle United particularly interested, and his departure would allow Pavlovic to perfectly slot in the defence alongside Fikayo Tomori.

Page 30 of today’s Corriere dello Sport details how Pavlovic is only a step away from joining Milan as he waits for a deal to be agreed with RB Salzburg, having rejected an approach from Atletico Madrid to push through the move to Italy.

The Austrian club want €25m for the 23-year-old and the Rossoneri are ready to offer a fixed €20m plus a few million in add-ons, likely enough to reach an agreement. The club have already agreed personal terms with the defender, ready to hand him a five-year deal worth €1.5m net per season plus add-ons.
