Pau Lopez claims it is “basically impossible to say no to a club like Roma and this is a big step forward in my career” after completing the transfer from Real Betis.
The goalkeeper signed on until June 2024 for an official fee of €23.5m, but there will also be the remaining 50 per cent of Antonio Sanabria’s contract and some bonuses, taking the total cost to around €28m.

“It’s basically impossible to say no to a club like Roma,” Lopez told the official Roma website after choosing the Number 13 jersey.
“This is a big step forward for me in my career. I am delighted by the confidence this great club has shown in me: I feel ready to take on this exciting new challenge.”
Still only 24, Pau Lopez is already a regular in Spanish football and made his senior international debut in November 2018.
“I am very pleased with the addition of Pau Lopez to our squad,” added Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi.
“Despite his young age, he has already reached 100 appearances in a hugely competitive league like La Liga. I am convinced that he can be very successful with us and will improve further under the guidance of Paulo Fonseca and his staff.”
