Marotta also tried to reassure Alberto Aquilani amid reports that Juventus are balking at the price they need to pay to make his move from Liverpool permanent.

"Alberto is doing well and we are happy to have him here with us. He must stay calm and we'll analyse the situation in due course.

"Fourth place is our objective and I am confident that we will realise it if misfortune doesn't deprive us of important components like it has in the recent past.

"The new signings have allowed the team to find its identity again, but now we must move forward down this path."
