Mario Pasalic turned down an offer from Fenerbahce because he is ‘not interested in going to Turkey,’ said his agent. ‘If a club in the top five leagues is interested, we’ll consider it, but he’s happy with Atalanta.’

There had been reports last week that the two clubs had reached an agreement for the sale before it all fell apart, as the Croatia international refused outright.

His agent Marko Naletilic has now confirmed that to Sportitalia and sent out a warning in case La Dea are trying to move him on.

“I can confirm we turned it down, because Mario quite simply is not interested in going to Turkey,” said the representative.

“I will say this, if during the transfer window a club in the top five European leagues is interested, then we would take any offers into consideration, along with Atalanta.

“However, he is happy with Atalanta, too happy to leave Bergamo for a league that does not inspire him.”

The 28-year-old has been with La Dea since the summer of 2018, when he had a two-season loan from Chelsea that was made permanent for a total sum of €17m.

It was the Croatia international’s second Serie A stint after another loan spell at Milan in 2016-17.

Pasalic has reached 201 competitive appearances in the Atalanta jersey, scoring 45 goals and providing 27 assists.
