Marco Parolo had ‘the perfect evening’ after scoring his debut Champions League goal in Lazio’s 3-1 win over Zenit.

The veteran was captain tonight at the Stadio Olimpico and found the net with a daisy-cutter from distance.

“I’d say it was the perfect evening,” Parolo told Mediaset.

“We won and took a step towards qualification, so the whole team deserves to be congratulated. When we win like this, the group makes the difference. We are growing and this is the mentality we need to keep.”

Lazio are on the verge of reaching the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in 20 years.

“We know the importance of what we are doing. There are two fundamental games to go and we want to put the decisive brick in the wall for qualification next time.

“It’s a huge achievement for me to just play in the Champions League, so scoring a goal is even more wonderful. I dedicate it to my family, who always stuck by me over the years.

“The best part of the night is celebrating a victory together as a team.”
