Parolo puts Azzurri on hold

Marco Parolo says he’s not primarily thinking about an international recall after joining Parma from Cesena.

The midfielder has moved to the Stadio Tardini on a loan deal – with a €4m right-to-buy option – after the Seahorses were relegated last term.

“Getting back into the Italy squad? For now, I just want to start playing football again with a smile on my face,” the 27-year-old noted.

“This is a great club, a great squad and a nice environment to play your football. We’ll have to wait and see what happens after that.”

The former Verona player has one international cap to his name, a 2-0 friendly win over the Ukraine in March 2011.

Parolo was being tracked by a variety of Serie A clubs this summer, but opted to work under Coach Roberto Donadoni.

“I’m happy to be here at Parma and excited about this decision,” he added. “I want to kick-start things, to play football again and enjoy myself.

“I think our objectives will be the same as last year – to wrap up safety as soon as possible and then see what we can get after that.”
