Marco Parolo admits Lazio “are still missing something to compete at this level” after an extraordinary Europa League capitulation to RB Salzburg.
The Aquile won the first leg 4-2, were 1-1 on the night in Austria at the 71st minute, but conceded three in four minutes.
“We had another chance to go 2-1 up, but we got too deep, allowed their shot. Another was deflected, they got confidence and scored from the corner when we lost our shape momentarily,” Parolo told Sky Sport Italia.
“Compliments to Salzburg, but we have to take a lot of blame, because until the 60th minute we were in total control. We gave them back confidence and sapped it from ourselves.
“Salzburg at this point go through deservedly. Nights like this leave bitterness and show that we’re still missing something to compete at this level, because otherwise we can’t lose like that.
“We were arrogant and thought the game was finished at 1-0 up. We have to learn from this and focus on Sunday’s important game.”
Lazio face Roma in a head-to-head for third place in Serie A in the Derby della Capitale this weekend.
