The Aquile narrowly missed out on fourth place last season in a 3-2 defeat to Inter, instead dropping into the Europa League.

“We hope to bring Lazio into the Champions League by giving our best on the pitch,” Parolo told children during a school visit.

“There’s no secret to success, otherwise we would’ve used it last season. That defeat to Inter is water under the bridge now, we have to forget about it and keep going. Soon we’ll face the Nerazzurri again and we want to win.”

Parolo also tried to give some advice to the kids and revealed the players he most looks up to.

“The important thing in this sport is to enjoy yourself, have the utmost respect for teammates and opponents. If you do that, you will always leave the field happy.

“Steven Gerrard at Liverpool was the player I was inspired by in my role. It’s not always easy to be calm and cool-headed during a match, and at times we do get caught up in the emotion of the situation, but over time we learn how to deal with it better.

“The most painful match was the World Cup play-off with Sweden, while the most enjoyable was Lazio’s Coppa Italia Final win over Roma, but also the Italian Super Cup victory with Juventus.”

Parolo is under contract with Lazio until June 2020 and the 33-year-old has no intention of leaving.

“I play for Lazio, I like living in Rome and I want to stay.”
