Torino assistant coach Matteo Paro stressed the Granata have to ‘turn around the negative trend’ at home, after the 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in the opening game on Saturday.

Juric started with a win on penalties against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia and was close to claiming a point against Gian Piero Gasperini’s men in the first Serie A game.

Torino 1-2 Atalanta: Piccoli snatches last-gasp victory

Andrea Belotti equalised Luis Muriel’s opener, but Roberto Piccoli scored the winner in stoppages and Juric’s assistant Paro spoke to the press after the game.

“The lads made a great effort and behaved well, we were curious to understand how we could play against a team that put everyone in difficulties,” Paro told DAZN after the match.

“In football you watch the result, we are sorry to have lost a game that we didn’t deserve to lose. The lads have to keep this feeling but think about the next one.”

The assistant said new coach Ivan Juric ‘was happy’ and looks forward to the next game against Fiorentina.

“The coach was happy, when you get so far against a team like Atalanta, you are sorry to lose” Paro continued. “We didn’t concede many chances.

“We started a journey, the lads did well. From Monday, we will think about the next one.”

The poor home run continues for the Granata, who have only won three times in their last 22 games at the Grande Torino.

“The lads come from two difficult years, but the applause of the fans is important,” Paro added. “Everyone has understood the spirit of the team, we have to change the negative trend.

“We will try to do it all together.”
