Parma sporting director Pietro Leonardi has backed his club’s stance to support Carlo Tavecchio for FIGC President.

The 71-year-old is thought to be the clear favourite in today’s vote to take over as chief of the Italian Football Federation.

President Tomasso Ghirardi earlier claimed that his side were backing the veteran, and his fellow board member has insisted that despite the controversy, the Crociati are behind their man.

“Despite a paradoxical media campaign we remain faithful to the decision taken by the majority of the League,” he told ANSA.

“I am convinced that in this moment the only way to go forward is with synergy between all four Leagues.

“I don’t want to comment on the controversy – I’ll leave others to do that. The assembly of the League has decided to go forward with an innovative reform, and we remain faithful to that.”
