According to Gazzetta di Parma, the Emilian club are looking for a figurehead for the journey back to Serie A, and have identified Gilardino as that man.

The newspaper cautions that such a move would be difficult, as the 2006 World Cup-winner has scored eight Serie A goals this season, and is clearly still able to play in the top-flight.

However, he retains affection for Parma, and could become a bona-fide club legend if he were to drop down the divisions to help out his old side.
