Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo will not be joining Parma this month, the Stadio Tardini outfit have underlined.

Midfielder Palombo has been paired with a January move and numerous sides have been associated with his signature.

Amongst the list of clubs is Parma, but President Tommaso Ghirardi insists such a switch is not in the realms of reality.

“Palombo is not within our reach, the figures being talked about are just too high,” Ghirardi told Mediaset.

“We as a club need to take a backward step and my advice is that every club should do the same,” he continued.

“Today’s football is not the same as it was five or six years ago. Player salaries are too high, companies are in trouble and sponsorship is thus down.

“We have to all cut costs of at least 50 per cent…”

Palombo, an Italian international, has been made available for transfer despite staying loyal to relegated Doria in the summer.

He’s also been paired with Juventus, Fiorentina and Napoli.
