Fabiano Parisi ‘can’t wait to get started’ as he arrives for his Fiorentina medical, completing a €10m transfer from Empoli.

It is such a short journey from one Tuscan town to another that he did it by train, greeted at the Santa Maria Novella station by fans and reporters.

“I am very happy. I salute all the Viola fans, I can’t wait to get started,” said Parisi.

The 22-year-old had also been linked with Juventus and Torino after impressing for Italy in the European Under-21 Championship, but the Viola were the club who came in strongest.

They secured him for €10m plus up to another €1m in performance-related bonuses and he will undergo his medical at the new Viola Park facility.

The left-back is seen as a challenger to captain Cristiano Biraghi in that role for Vincenzo Italiano’s 4-3-3 formation.

A product of the Benevento youth academy who was purchased by Avellino, he moved to Empoli in September 2020.

Last season he scored two goals and contributed two assists in 33 Serie A appearances.
