Leandro Paredes admits Roma do love to make life difficult for themselves after a comeback win over Sassuolo. ‘If we don’t suffer, it doesn’t count!’

The Giallorossi completed yet another comeback victory, confirming their impressive reactions to setbacks in the second half.

Matheus Henrique had given Sassuolo the lead, but Daniel Boloca saw red for a studs-up tackle on Paredes after 62 minutes.

Substitute Rasmus Kristensen transformed the game, first winning the penalty converted by Paulo Dybala, then seeing his wayward strike take a huge deflection off Ruan Tressoldi to loop into the far top corner.

“It was very important for us. It seems that if we don’t suffer, it doesn’t count! We played well, unfortunately we conceded a goal that we were not expecting, but we turned it around for the points,” Paredes told DAZN.

“There is always hunger, unfortunately we tend to reach the final stages suffering and under pressure. We have many aspects that need improvement and we’re working on them.”

This is no fluke, as Roma have scored 13 goals in the final 15 minutes of their Serie A games this season.

The comebacks also allowed them to pick up an extra seven points from trailing situations.

Jose Mourinho had complained after the 1-1 Europa League draw with Servette that some Roma players were too ‘superficial’ and did not give their all in both tournaments.

“I think we all try to give 100 per cent and need to keep working in order to continue improving,” assured Paredes.

“From the first day I arrived, everyone gave me the confidence I needed after a difficult year at Juventus. The coach has faith in me too and that means a lot.”
