Lucas Paqueta assures Milan fans are finally getting to see ‘the real me’ in a trequartista role. ‘I’m getting my confidence back and it makes all the difference.’

The midfielder turns 23 next month and was signed from Flamengo for almost €39m plus bonuses in January 2019, but has struggled to deliver on his promise.

He was repeatedly linked with a move away in January and again this summer, with Fiorentina particularly interested.

“This is the real me, this is Paqueta,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Now I feel more confident, the coach and staff have faith in me, I can relax and work well, stay concentrated in the match and try to give my best.

“Confidence is the most important thing for a football player, I had a lot of it in Brazil, now I am getting it back and it makes all the difference.”

The move to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Paqueta in a central role behind the striker is also getting the best out of him, as in last night’s 3-0 win over Lazio.

“I am happy as a trequartista and it’s the position I enjoy the most, where I think I can give my best. That was a special victory, as it had been many years since Milan beat Lazio 3-0. Now we’ve got to continue like this.”

The Rossoneri take on Juventus on Tuesday evening.

“We put in a great Coppa Italia performance against Juve, now Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back, we are confident and believe we can win.”
