Former Atalanta forward Papu Gomez could be set to move to Saudi Arabia before the close of the transfer window in the Pro League, despite reported interest in the Argentine from Serie A side Monza.
Gomez left Atalanta in January 2021 to join Sevilla on a deal until the summer of 2024. The 34-year-old has since agreed to terminate his contract with the LaLiga club a year early, meaning he is available to join any side as a free agent.
According to recent reports from Calciomercato.com, Italy is an appealing destination for Gomez and his family, who enjoyed their time in Bergamo during the player’s six-and-a-half year spell with Atalanta.
The Italian outlet notes that there has been definite interest from teams in Serie A, but as of yet, there have been no concrete talks with any club, including Monza, who were thought to be the most interested Italian side.
Instead, Calciomercato writes, it appears most likely that Saudi Arabia is most likely Gomez’s next destination.
