Goran Pandev has criticised former club Napoli for undoing all of the good work done by previous boss Walter Mazzarri.

The 31-year-old, signed from Inter in 2011, left the Azzurri last month after a deal was done with Turkish outfit Galatasaray.

“You will have to ask boss Rafael Benitez why I left,” he told Il Mattino. “I always gave 100 per cent and, when I played, I did what was asked of me.

“I arrived at Napoli three years ago and I found a great squad. We achieved some important results, we came second and qualified for the Champions League.

“Last season, meanwhile, Napoli finished third and won’t be in the Champions League. That is something to reflect on.

“With the arrival of Benitez, Mazzarri’s Napoli was slowly dismantled. The club decided to turn the page when Mazzarri left, but I don’t understand why they wanted to close such a cycle so quickly.”

Mazzarri joined Inter in 2013.
