Genoa and North Macedonia striker Goran Pandev hasn’t ruled out retiring from football: ‘Now I need to rest…’

Pandev, 37, played the last of his 122 international games with North Macedonia against the Netherlands today.

He was honoured by the Oranje’s captain Georginio Wijnaldum before kick-off and received a standing ovation when he was subbed off in the second half.

However, with his Genoa contract expiring at the end of the month, Pandev’s future remains up in the air.

“I played many games with my national team. I lost a lot of them, with many sacrifices. Nevertheless, we managed to play the Euros just at the end of my career, which was extraordinary for the whole country,” Pandev told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy my international career ended this way, I want to thank everybody, we achieved something special.”

Genoa defender Domenico Criscito has sent a message to Pandev through social media, hoping to continue playing with him next season.

“I thank Mimmo, we played many games together, he is like a brother to me,” Pandev said.

“I am waiting for a call from Genoa now…Jokes aside, I want to rest a little bit, I spoke to the club and I need to choose. The club and the coach have always supported me, I want to rest and then I will decide.”
