Genoa star Goran Pandev received a standing ovation at the Johan Cruijff Arena while leaving the pitch on his last international game.

North Macedonia’s Euro 2020 clash against Netherlands marked the last international appearance for the 37-year-old who has played 122 games with his national team.

The former Inter and Lazio striker had been honoured before kick-off by the Oranje’s captain Georginio Wijnaldum who gifted him a Holland shirt with the No. 122 printed on its back.

Pandev received a standing ovation by the crowd when he was subbed off in the second half.

North Macedonia have already been eliminated from the competition after the first two defeats in the group stage, but it was the first time they participated in an international tournament.

Pandev has scored 38 goals with his national team and has 101 goals in 437 appearances in Serie A.

The Cruijff Arena tie could be Pandev’s last game as his future at Genoa haven’t been solved yet and the experienced striker had suggested his career could have been over with Euro 2020.

His teammate Domenico Criscito wrote a message for him on Instagram, hoping to play with him for one more season at the Stadio Marassi.

β€œToday is your last game with your national team. You are a great football and an amazing person. The whole footballing world will be applauding you,” the defender wrote.

β€œYou are a legend and I hope to spend more time with you in the dressing room and on the pitch.”
