The Italian international has been linked with a New Year exit after the Serie B club made it clear that they were willing to sell.

Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have all been paired with a bid next month, but the club captain insists he wants to continue playing his football in Genoa.

“I want to stay here,” he is quoted as saying in the Corriere Mercantile. “I don’t intend to leave Sampdoria.

“The fans should stay calm. We’ll see each other again after Christmas.”

Palombo, 30, joined Doria from Fiorentina in the summer of 2002 and decided to stay loyal following last season’s shock relegation from the top flight.
