New Roma signing Emerson Palmieri says his goal is to help the team, and doesn’t fear competition.

The left-back has joined the Giallorossi on loan from Santos, and was officially presented to fans and media today.

“It will be a long season, my goal is to help the team,” Palmieri told a Press conference.

“Competition for places is normal at a big club, and I’m not afraid of that. Every player has the quality to play their part, but my first goal is to help Roma.”

Palmieri will not be helping his new side in the Champions League, as he has not been included in the squad, but the 21-year-old is understanding.

“Every player wants to play in the Champions League, but I’m young and I’ve just arrived, I have to show I deserve these things by working.”

The Brazilian’s personality was questioned by Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini following a loan spell in Sicily last year, but the player himself is grateful to the Rosanero.

“I don’t have to respond to the President,” Palmieri said.

“He has his own view of things, but personalyl I think I did well, they were all happy with me. I have to thank Palermo, because without them I wouldn’t be here. I don’t have anything controversial to say.

"I think I always did my duty, I was injured for 50 days, but all the other times I think I did well. If I’m here [at Roma] then it’s because I proved my worth.”
