The American magnate will be in Italy this weekend, and he will take the opportunity to work on a number of the club's current issues.

Foremost among these is of course the stadium, and the meeting scheduled with Raggi could prove crucial.

The political situation in the capital is extremely sensitive, as the party represented by the mayor – the Movimento 5 Stelle, or M5S – has often seemed like the most openly hostile to the project.

The anti-establishment party has proffered heavy criticism of the alleged urban and real estate speculation surrounding the Stadio della Roma, in line with their traditional position against big business and financial powers.

Raggi herself sounded partial to the idea of building a stadium during her electoral campaign, claiming that Rome had 'other problems to worry about'. But she has sounded more open to dialogue in recent times, which is why the meeting with Pallotta could lead to important developments.

The stadium project has been submitted by Roma to the city authorities and is currently being discussed by the various institutions. It has to pass through a number of bureaucratic hoops before any work can begin.
