Pallotta: ‘Nobody changed mind on Totti’

Roma President James Pallotta insists the Francesco Totti contract renewal was never an issue. “I always said we’d talk at the end of the season.”

The captain will be out of contract at the end of this month, but is widely expected to sign a new one-year deal to continue playing past his 40th birthday.

“I never did change my mind on Totti. All of you kept guessing what we were going to do,” Pallotta told a scrum of reporters outside the airport in Rome.

“I had conversations with Francesco over six months ago and then the last time I was here. I said we’d talk again at the end of the year, you think about what you want to do and what you’re thinking, whether you want to go on or just go straight into a director’s role.

“If you looked and heard, I didn’t say anything for six months. He got frustrated one time, we always said we’d wait to the end of the year and now I’m here, so we’ll talk.”
