Following last night’s meeting, Monza coach Raffaele Palladino is very close to agreeing a deal with Fiorentina to take over next season.

Multiple sources had noted Palladino was in Florence on Friday to meet with Viola directors face to face, then had dinner with his agent in a local restaurant.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the encounter went well and Fiorentina are edging closer to finalising the details with the 40-year-old.

Palladino relatively inexperienced

Palladino only retired as a player in 2019 and started his coaching career with the Monza youth team in 2021.

He was promoted to the senior role in September 2022, just a few weeks into the club’s first ever Serie A campaign, and for two seasons in a row steered them to mid-table comfort.

Fiorentina must look to the future, as it has been known for some months that Vincenzo Italiano will walk away at the end of the season.

He took the Viola to three Finals in two years, one in the Coppa Italia and two the Conference League, losing all of them.

  1. 3 finals in two years yet zero trophy. What does it tell you? Italiano’s incompetence? Weak mentality of the players? I pick the 2nd. Italiano was the 1st Viola coach who managed to accomplish those since, gosh been so long I forgot when.

  2. Dan Carlo,
That Italiano is the one who made fiorentina lose the conference league 2 years in a row.
