Palermo have been handed a huge blow after losing talisman Mario Santana for the rest of the season to an Achilles injury.
The former Fiorentina and Napoli attacker had to be stretchered off during the 3-1 loss to Sicilian rivals Acireale at the weekend.
Tests have since shown a tear to his right Achilles tendon – enough to sideline the 37-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.

Santana only returned to the reborn Rosanero in August and had helped them top Serie D Group I with three goals and two assists.
Despite the setback, Rosario Pergolizzi’s side are still five points clear of nearest challengers Savoia.
