Palermo have rejected speculation that they are in talks about selling Stefano Sorrentino to Roma.

The capital club are set to sign a new goalkeeper seeing as Maarten Stekelenburg is on the verge of signing for Fulham.

Sorrentino, 34, joined the Stadio Barbera outfit from Chievo in January but his future is again in doubt given the Rosanero’s relegation to Serie B.

“We haven’t spoken to Roma,” director Giorgio Perinetti told Voce Giallorossa. “We have the option to sign him outright and we will be doing that.

“He is a player who we want to count on in the new campaign, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

“The market has only just opened and we made an important investment in January. We’d like him to be a pillar of the side, but you can never say never.”
