Palermo look set to win promotion to Serie C after the Italian non-league voted to freeze the current campaign.

The announcement was made during yesterday’s Federal Council that Serie D would not resume for the 2019-20 season.

Now, the non-league’s governing body – Lega Nazionale Dilettanti – has agreed to end the season with tables as they are.

Providing the proposals are approved at the next Federal Council, Palermo will start next term in Serie C.

The Rosanero were refounded last summer after the old club filed for bankruptcy and were promptly admitted to Serie D.

They were top of Group I with 20 wins and 63 points from 26 games, seven points clear of second-placed Savoia, before coronavirus caused the campaign to stop.
