Palermo Coach Giuseppe Iachini compares Alberto Gilardino to the team's former striker Paulo Dybala and denies rifts with President Maurizio Zamparini.

While the consensus is that the Argentine's departure weakened the Sicilian team considerably, there has been a lot of discussion as to what the veteran Azzurri striker can bring to their side.

“I'll see how he's feeling in the last hours [before today's game against Carpi], because we're not talking about an 18-year-old kid,” said Iachini in his Press conference.

“I must have a discussion with him to understand the odds of using him. He's a very experienced player.

“I'm not bothered about the tactical aspect even though he worked very well, I'm concerned purely about the physical question.

“Dybala and Gilardino are alike in their movement and in the way they attack spaces.

“Gila plays on the borderline of the offside very much, while Paulo relied more on his speed.

“The characteristics of the striker involve the entire team. If you have [Franco] Vazquez, you must bring out the best in him and put him to work for the team.”

There had been rumours of a rift between the Coach and President Maurizio Zamparini over some of the transfer market moves, but Iachini played them down.

“With Zamparini everything is clear now, I think it's part of any wedding to have some small divergences.

“We have reciprocal respect even though sometimes we've had some small disagreements. As Zampa himself said, let everybody do their own job.

“Can Palermo defend their first place? These things have to be conquered, I don't like to talk but to work.”
