“Obviously, we’re going to miss Giancarlo,” said Columbus Crew Coach and director of sport Gregg Berhalter.
“We were expecting him to be able to perform and to showcase his talents. What it does here is we establish ourselves as an environment that can increase the value of players. That’s key in this thing.”
‘Pipo’ Gonzalez is flying out tonight to Italy and will undergo a medical with the transfer finalised on Monday or Tuesday.
Fulham were also known to have made an offer for Gonzalez, but Palermo provided the winning proposal.
Palermo were knocked out of the Coppa Italia this evening, losing 3-0 at home to Serie B side Modena.
