Palermo sporting director Daniele Faggioni insists his side were right “not to sign just anyone” after they failed to bring in a striker on Wednesday.
Palermo were heavily linked with the likes of Mario Balotelli and Daniel Ciofani, but the former eventually joined Nice on a free transfer as the Frosinone attacker opted to stay put, while a shock return for Kyle Lafferty was mooted and a deal for ex-Catania man Gonzalo Bergessio was not completed in time.

“What didn’t come off? Nothing, the market is what it is,” Faggioni told Mediagol.
“Of course, we can’t rely on the last day of market, but we moved quietly, bringing in the coveted Bruno Henrique.
“They were long and convoluted negotiations, the same thing with Diamanti, but we’ve worked hard and some other teams were working on the same objective.
“[President] Zamparini was decisive as he spoke to us on the phone.
“Regarding strikers, our stance is that we won’t sign just anyone. One of our first choices was Ciofani, but he didn’t leave [Frosinone].”
