Palermo have secured promotion to Serie B after beating Padova 2-0 on aggregate in the Serie C promotion play-off finals.

The Sicilian side came into this evening’s second leg with a 1-0 lead thanks to Roberto Floriano, who netted after 10 minutes in the first leg in Veneto. The team were feeling confident ahead of the match and were hungry for promotion as the City Group prepare to carry out their takeover of the club.

Things went to plan for Palermo at home this evening, with Matteo Brunori giving the home side a 1-0 lead after 25 minutes of action. The Sicilian side were given another boost in the 56th minute after Padova midfielder Ronaldo was given a straight red card, sending the Veneto side down to 10 men at a crucial stage of the game.

This’ll be Palermo’s first season back in Serie B following their financial collapse back in the summer of 2019; the team were re-formed in Serie D and have slowly been climbing the tiers since.
